Elon Musk's social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, has recently revealed a change in its content guidelines, allowing the sharing of adult content. X stated that they have updated their policies on “Adult Content and Violent Content” to offer clearer rules on such content and improve transparency in enforcing them.
They stated that the “former Sensitive Media and Violent Speech policies” have been replaced by these policies, but the principles of enforcement remain the same.
X's rules also cover AI-generated and animated material. The site allows adult nudity or sexual content, whether it's AI-generated, photos, or animations.
What X means by ‘Adult' and ‘Violent' content
They explained that “Adult Content refers to how we handle sharing consensual sexual content and adult nudity,” and “Violent Content refers to violent speech and violent media in order to address violence in all its forms more comprehensively.”
Adult content refers to material that displays complete or partial nudity, such as close-up shots of genitals, buttocks, or breasts. It may also include explicit or implied sexual behavior, as well as simulated acts like sexual intercourse.
How to mark content on X
X platform recommends users who often share adult content to modify their media settings accordingly.
This will guarantee that such images and videos are hidden behind a content warning, which appears before they are seen. Additionally, there is the choice to include a one-time content warning to specific posts.
X also mentioned that if individuals fail to label their posts correctly, the platform will take care of it on their behalf.
Harmful content will be prohibited
The platform will keep blocking harmful or non-consensual pornographic content, along with any material that promotes objectifying people or harming minors. Additionally, adult content won't be permitted in profile pictures, banners, or other public areas.

Use the ‘report' option on the app to flag unmarked content or any violations.

Users who are under 18 years old or have not provided their birth date will not be able to see posts that are labeled as adult content, as stated in the policy.
