The world is paying close attention to the 2022 defamation trial involving Johnny Depp and Amber Heard.
Johnny Depp's lawyer ensured that Amber Heard understood the reason behind his refusal to make eye contact during their court case.
The well-known defamation lawsuit involving Depp and Heard gained global interest in 2022, attracting hundreds of thousands of viewers daily to watch the live stream.
Nearly two years later, Depp's victory over his ex-wife is the subject of a Netflix documentary called Depp v. Heard, allowing interested viewers to revisit the entire trial.
Depp filed a lawsuit against Heard for $50 million due to a 2018 article she wrote in the Washington Post titled: “I spoke out against sexual violence – and encountered our culture's anger. This needs to change.”
Depp's lawyers argued that the article falsely suggested he mistreated Heard during their relationship, even though his name wasn't mentioned directly.
During the trial, Heard accused Depp of abuse in their relationship. However, the Pirates of the Caribbean actor responded in an interesting way while Heard was giving evidence.
When Depp's lawyer, Camille Vasquez, questioned Heard during cross examination, she was asked why she believed he hadn't glanced at her.

In court, Vasquez said: “Mr. Depp hasn't looked at you once this entire trial, has he?”
To which Heard responded: “Not that I've noticed, no.”
“You've looked at him many times, haven't you?” Vasquez continued.
The Aquaman star replied: “Yes, I have.”
Even though some people found it worrisome that Depp didn't make eye contact, suggesting guilt, there was a valid reason why he avoided looking at Heard during the trial.
Vasquez cleared this up by saying: “You know exactly why Mr. Depp won't look back at you, don't you?
“He promised you would never see his eyes again, isn't that true?”

Heard pretended she was clueless, but a recording of the ex-couple suggested otherwise.
Vasquez showed a video from their previous encounter in 2016 where Depp mentioned, “We won't need to meet again.”
“You will not see my eyes again.”
Heard stood her ground that Depp ‘couldn't' look at her rather than ‘wouldn't'.
She said: “As far as I know, he cannot look at me.”
To which Vasquez responded: “He won't look at you, right Ms. Heard?”
Though Heard claimed: “He can't.”
The trial ended after six weeks with the jury ruling in favor of Depp, awarding him $15 million in damages from Heard.
