Dean Cain sacrificed his career to raise his son alone – vowing to not be like his own dad who abandoned him

But acting wasn't his first dream; he actually wanted to be a football player. Sadly, a knee injury ended his football career, and that's when he chose to become an actor.

Cain was born as Dean George Tanaka on July 31, 1966, in Michigan. His real parents are Sharon Tanaka and Roger Tanaka, but the story of who raised him is quite interesting.

His biological dad left the family just two years after marrying Cain's mom. When he was three, his mom moved on and got remarried. She married director Christopher Cain, who legally adopted both Dean Cain and his brother.

Dean changed his last name to Cain. About his biological father, he said, “My biological father is Japanese. I never knew him, never met him.” This shows that he didn't have a relationship with his birth dad.

It was reported that Roger Tanaka, Dean Cain's birth father, moved on and got remarried in 1982, but he never tried to fix his relationship with his two sons.

Cain was known for being a ladies' and seemed to not want to settle down. However, he became a dad in June 2000 when his ex-girlfriend, Samantha Torres, who used to be a model and Playboy Playmate, gave birth to their son.

He named his son Christopher to honor his adoptive father. He was really happy to finally be a dad, but his relationship with his son's mom got worse, leading them to fight for custody of their child.

However, Cain was determined not to give up easily and fought hard for his son's custody. In 2011, his hard work paid off when he was granted sole custody of his son.

When it comes to parenting, Cain is very involved. He prepares all of his son's meals. In an interview, he mentioned, “I cook every meal for my child. If I don't cook, he doesn't eat. I make a really great steak. I'm also skilled at turning the nine leftovers I have into something delicious.”

He ensures that he is always there for his son. This wasn't easy, though; the actor had to make many tough choices and learn through . He often found himself torn between his job and important events like PTA meetings for his son. Ultimately, he decided that his son's happiness was the most important thing.

Being the main caretaker for his son was tough, but Cain always made sure to prioritize his son's needs over his own. Balancing his responsibilities as a writer, producer, director, talk show host, and political analyst with being a parent was challenging, but he found a way to manage it all.

It was only when his son turned 18 and graduated from high that Cain started taking on leading roles again. Fans were puzzled about why he was refusing roles, but he made it clear that his son's happiness was his top priority.

He always made it a point to go to his son Christopher's football games and jujitsu tournaments. In an interview, the actor mentioned, “I'm there. I'm a very present father, and I would never do it any other way. I feel lucky to have the chance to do so many different things while still being a father first.”

Cain always puts his son first, being a dad before being an actor, and it really shows in their close bond.

He often shares photos of his son on Instagram. Recently, Dean took his son to Princeton, his old school, to show him where he came from.

The two of them seem to go on lots of trips together and really enjoy each other's company, especially judging by their fun Instagram pictures.

Christopher Cain also has two half-siblings from his mom. Elijah and Isabelle are twins who love spending time with their big brother and often visit the Cain home. Cain even said, “I'd do anything for those two. It might seem like a broken home, but if you come to our , you wouldn't think that at all.”
