A 26-year-old British influencer, Lewis Stevenson, tragically fell to his death while attempting a dangerous stunt at Spain's tallest bridge.
The investigation into his death showed that he got serious head injuries after falling from the Castilla-La Mancha bridge, which is 192 meters high, near Talavera de la Reina. Stevenson was trying to climb the bridge without any safety gear because he wanted to take a thrilling Instagram photo for his followers.
On October 13, Stevenson was visiting Spain for a short time when he lost his hold while trying to perform a stunt.
His body was discovered at 7:14 a.m. on the Sunday morning after the fall.
Even though his family kept asking him not to take such dangerous risks, Stevenson was set on going through with his risky climb.
His grandfather, Clifford Stevenson, shared with Mail Online: “We all tried to convince him not to do it. We were always trying to talk him out of doing things, but that was just his nature.”
Stevenson loved ‘rooftopping,' which is a kind of urban climbing that involves scaling tall buildings and structures. He had shared his thrilling adventures from around the globe on his Instagram account, where he went by the name ‘expedition.'
His posts showcased thrilling photos of him atop buildings in cities like New York and London.
Local officials had consistently warned that it was not allowed to access the Castilla-La Mancha bridge.
Macarena Munoz, a local council member responsible for citizen safety, stated that Stevenson ignored these warnings and went ahead with the stunt, along with another 24-year-old man from England.
She called the fall a tragic accident and stressed that “climbing the bridge is completely forbidden, and we have said this many times that it should not be done at all.”
Stevenson reportedly decided to climb the bridge because he wanted to make exciting content for his social media followers.
During a hearing at Derby Coroner's Court, Assistant Coroner Sabyta Kaushal confirmed that the cause of death was ‘blunt force head injuries' from the fall.
Kaushal started the inquest into Stevenson's death on December 3 and postponed the proceedings for more investigations, with a final hearing planned once the inquiries are finished.
Stevenson's girlfriend, Savannah Parker, called the events leading up to his death a ‘nightmare.'
She remembered their last chat, where he told her, ‘Good night, I love you,' just before the tragic fall.
Parker spoke to Stevenson that morning, but she didn't grasp how serious things were until much later.
She had gone on similar adventures with him before, like the time they explored an old building in Malta.
“I was really scared of messing up,” she confessed, but she did it because she loved him.
Along with his family, friends and fellow ‘rooftopping' fans mourned Stevenson's loss.
One friend, who loved climbing urban structures without safety gear, shared a touching post on Instagram.
Using the name Louie_W1, he called Stevenson ‘the bravest, most caring, and funniest person' he had ever met, showing his deep sadness over the loss.
Another friend, Vil1iany, talked about how Stevenson changed his life, saying he showed him ‘a new understanding of freedom' and inspired his creativity.
“Your fearless attitude will stay with me forever,” he wrote in his tribute.
