John Cena is admired by numerous children who are fans of professional wrestling, however, the WWE superstar has recently explained his decision not to have children of his own.
John Cena, aged 47, made the announcement this week that he will be retiring from WWE as an in-ring talent. This will give his iconic ‘you can't see me' tagline even more meaning when he takes his final bow at the end of 2025.
John Cena has established himself as an influential figure and a source of inspiration for both young fans and adults who are dedicated followers of Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown. His demeanor suggests that he is truly kind-hearted, and his wrestling persona mirrors his authentic personality. Cena's popularity among children is evident in his Guinness World Record for being the most sought-after celebrity by kids at the Make-a-Wish Foundation, a charitable organization that fulfills the wishes of children facing serious illnesses.
Cena, despite his talent for creating lasting memories for children, has no interest in having kids of his own.
Approaching the age of 50, the actor known for his roles in Fast X and Ricky Stanicky has steadfastly stuck to his choice, even in the face of sporadic unusual criticism.
Cena explained his reasoning for not starting a family on The Drew Barrymore Show in January 2022. He shared, “I am truly content with how my life is unfolding. I have been on a thrilling journey for quite some time now. I have been blessed with opportunities to achieve things that I never even dared to dream of, despite having some ambitious goals.”
Cena considers time to be the crucial element. He is of the opinion that he lacks the necessary amount of time to commit to raising a child, considering the high level of care and attention they demand, particularly during the early stages of development.
It is a challenging task to manage my time effectively. I strive to maintain a healthy balance in my life,” he elaborated. “I find it difficult to be the ideal partner and husband for my beloved wife. It is a struggle to nurture relationships with my loved ones, and it is also a challenge to dedicate myself to my work diligently.”
He mentioned, “In my opinion, which is not backed by qualifications, I believe that being good at something alone is insufficient reason to pursue it. One must possess passion and drive for it. It's akin to telling someone, ‘You're skilled with your hands, you should become a carpenter.' However, if I aspire to be an actor, then I shall pursue acting.”
John Cena has been wedded to Shay Shariatzadeh since 2020, marking his second marriage following a three-year union with Elizabeth Huberdeau. Prior to this, he was in a six-year romantic involvement with fellow WWE superstar Nikki Bella. Although the couple became engaged, they decided to part ways just weeks before their scheduled wedding.
Cena has publicly declared that Bella's wish to have children played a major role in their separation. Discussing her choice to end their relationship, Bella mentioned on the Better Together with Maria Menounos podcast that she didn't want him to have any regrets about having children with her.
She mentioned that even at the end, when he was open to having children, she could sense that it wasn't what they truly desired. She explained that this realization ultimately influenced her decision, as she didn't want to compel someone into fatherhood.
